Dad Fred's Domestic Garden

A little garden at home doesn’t only make the backyard nice and lovely, but also profitable and productive.

Dad Fred is now 90 years old and still capable of doing his gardening.  Apart from planting flowers in their front yard, he also loves to grow fruits and vegetables in their little backyard. He grows variety of plants in different seasons.  So his garden has never been idle.

Sometimes we don’t realize how important having a garden at home.   It is worth the time and effort spent for it especially when the harvest time comes.  It is a good help and savings on shopping the basic items in the market or grocery.

Below are few photos of his humble garden.  However, when the harvest time comes, you will enjoy picking the fruits and vegetables; cook and serve them ready to eat without any hassles. It is good savings from your pockets!

If you have huge backyard in your home, or enough space to plant and grow fruits and vegetables -  go for it, for you’ll enjoy and love it!!!

What does Dad Fred plant or grow in his garden?

He plants lovely flowers in their front yard in accordance to the season. As you can see in the picture on the right, he makes sure the front yard is not bare.

Then at their back yard, he plants fruits like Raspberries and Strawberries.

When I was a child as I remember, I thought that strawberries are picked from the trees. I just realized that strawberries are simply plants.

While the rasberries are picked from a bush (small tree).

These fruits are a bit expensive if you buy them in the supermarkets, but picking them in your own backyard is lovely and fresh as well as saves you from buying it.

He also plants vegetables like –

sweet corn, onions, tomatoes, potatoes, parsnips, lettuce, broad beans, runner beans, radish, courgettes, leeks, beet root and more.

All of those vegetables I mentioned are also planted in accordance to its season (ie, Spring, Summer, Autumn & Winter), though I have limited photos shown in here. There are plants that needs more sunshine or grows on warmer weather and there are also plants that may only grow during cold weather. It is nice to have little garden as productive as this.

When I have my own house, I will make sure I will have a backyard for I am presently living in a flat with a communal ground (shame). When I retire and grow older, I will also be inspired to do the same.

Cheers!
