The Four Seasons

I came from a tropical country, so it is normal for a person like me to be fascinated with the different types of weather. In my country, we only have two types of weather and that is, “Wet and Dry Season” or the “Rain and Sunny Weather”.

There are four (4) seasons here in UK. The Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
Being in this country is a bit different. Though, I like it because it gives you variation. What goes with the different seasons, is also the food, nature, clothing & fashion. I enjoy seeing the changes in the environment when each season comes.

What sort of changes do I normally see when new season comes?

First thing I usually notice is the nature, the plants and the birds. I can immediately spot the difference of the colour of the leaves and type of flowers that comes out on a certain season. Second, the fashion trend or the clothes that people wear.
Third, the fruits and vegetables corresponding to its season are also found in the supermarkets.

When Spring comes – They call it “The Long Days and Short Nights”. I see few leaves coming out from the trees. Flowers like the tiny white daisies on the ground, yellow daffodils and tulips on its way. The birds start to sing early mornings. The meadow that is full of yellow flowers like cowslips and buttercups. The people starts to wear lighter clothes like thinner cardigans, light coats and jackets. Finally, the clock is move an hour forward.

When Summer comes – The environment is cheerful. The weather becomes warmer and the sun shines brighter each day. Temperature is rising and you finally see the full bloom of the trees and summer flowers starts to bloom. The people start to wear cooler clothes with brighter shade or earth colours. Sleeveless tops, light trousers, open sandals or slippers and even men tend to strip off! Outdoor meals and bar-b-q is on. Salad and cold food is commonly eaten on this time of the year. More cold drinks are served. Windows and doors at home tend to be open letting the fresh warmer air in.

When Autumn comes – They call it “The Short Days and Long Nights”. This is where you start to see the environment is getting a bit “sad and lonely”. Most of the weather is overcast. The wind is colder. I also notice the discoloration of the leaves on the plants and trees. They start to dry and finally fall from the trees or when the strong wind blows them off. The people starts to wear their cardigans, coats and jackets. The women start to wear close shoes. Again, the clock is move an hour backwards.

When Winter comes – The environment is a bit morbid and dark. You will find naked trees or bare plants. Lovely flowers are gone. The winter showers starts and on the middle and later end of winter, we finally get the Snow! The people start to wear thicker and warmer clothes like winter coats and jackets. Most even wear black or a bit dull colour of their clothes. Knee length boots or ankle boots are on the trend. Winter bonnets, scarves and gloves as well.

This is one of the reasons why I tend to like staying in UK because of the Four (4) Seasons. There is what we call “ variety”.
